The Northwest Territories is a vast region located in northern Canada, bordered by Yukon to the west, Nunavut to the east, and British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan to the south. The territory spans over 1.3 million square kilometers and is home to a diverse population of Indigenous peoples, including the Dene, Inuvialuit, Métis, and others. With its rugged terrain, pristine wilderness, and rich cultural heritage, the Northwest Territories offers visitors a unique and unforgettable experience. From exploring the majestic landscapes of the Nahanni National Park Reserve to witnessing the breathtaking Northern Lights to learning about the traditional customs and beliefs of Indigenous communities, there is no shortage of adventure and discovery in this remarkable part of the world.

As a result, the Northwest Territories Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) has become an increasingly popular pathway for foreign nationals seeking to immigrate to Canada. The NWT PNP is designed to support the economic development of the region by attracting and retaining skilled workers and entrepreneurs who can contribute to its communities and industries. Through the NWT PNP, eligible candidates can obtain a nomination from the government of the Northwest Territories, which can then be used to apply for permanent residency in Canada. In this way, the NWT PNP offers a unique opportunity for individuals who wish to live and work in one of Canada’s most stunning and dynamic regions.

There are several immigration pathways that operate in the province.

Northwest Territories Employer Driven Stream

The Northwest Territories Employer Driven Stream is a category within the Northwest Territories Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) that allows employers in the region to sponsor foreign workers for permanent residency in Canada. This stream is designed to address the region’s labor shortages by providing a pathway for skilled workers who can contribute to the NWT’s economy and communities.

To be eligible for the Employer Driven Stream, candidates must have a valid job offer from a Northwest Territories employer in a designated occupation. The job offer must be for a full-time, permanent position, and the employer must demonstrate that they have been unable to fill the position with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

If an employer sponsors a candidate through the Employer Driven Stream, the candidate will receive a nomination from the government of the Northwest Territories, which can then be used to apply for permanent residency in Canada. This stream is a win-win for both employers and foreign workers, as it helps to fill labor shortages in the region and provides an opportunity for skilled workers to establish themselves in Canada.

Northwest Territories Business Driven Stream

The Northwest Territories Business Driven Stream is a category of the Northwest Territories Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) designed to attract and support foreign entrepreneurs interested in starting or acquiring a business in the Northwest Territories. This stream is intended to help stimulate economic growth and create new regional job opportunities. To be eligible for this program, candidates must have a viable business plan, relevant business management experience, and sufficient funds to invest in their business. Successful applicants will receive a nomination from the government of the Northwest Territories, which can then be used to apply for permanent residency in Canada. Through the Business Driven Stream, the Northwest Territories PNP aims to encourage the establishment and growth of new businesses in the region while providing a pathway for skilled and experienced entrepreneurs to make Canada their home.

Northwest Territories Francophone streams

The Northwest Territories (NWT) Francophone streams are specialized immigration pathways within the NWT Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) that are designed to attract and retain French-speaking immigrants. These streams recognize the importance of the French language and culture in the region and seek to increase the number of Francophones who settle in the NWT.
In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria for the NWT PNP, candidates for the Francophone streams must also demonstrate proficiency in French and have a genuine intention to live and work in the NWT. Successful applicants will receive a nomination from the NWT government, which can then be used to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Nominee Applicants to this stream are not eligible for nomination through Express Entry.
