Saskatchewan Farm Owners and Operators Pathway

The Saskatchewan Farm Owners and Operators Pathway is a program designed to provide a streamlined immigration process for foreign nationals who are interested in owning and operating a farm in Saskatchewan, Canada.

This pathway is intended for experienced farmers who want to purchase and run a farm in Saskatchewan. Successful applicants are granted a two-year work permit to operate the farm, with the potential to apply for permanent residency in the future.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must demonstrate a net worth of at least $500,000 CAD, with a minimum of $300,000 CAD in unencumbered funds. Additionally, they must have experience in farm ownership or management and provide a comprehensive business plan for their proposed farming operation in Saskatchewan.

The Saskatchewan Farm Owners and Operators PNP pathway offers a unique opportunity for experienced farmers to own and operate their own farms in Canada. It is a highly competitive program with a limited number of spots available, so interested applicants should carefully review the eligibility requirements and ensure that they meet all of the criteria before applying.

Refundable Cash Deposit

Must sign a Performance Agreement to purchase and actively operate a farm in Saskatchewan.

Make a “good faith” deposit of $75,000 (CAD) in trust (will be refunded when the terms of the Performance Agreement are met)

Mandatory visit to Saskatchewan

Must make an exploratory visit to Saskatchewan for at least five working days.

Farm operation knowledge and experience

Must have knowledge of farm operations

Proposal

Well-thought-out proposal for a commercial Saskatchewan farming opportunity.

This pathway has two streams

1. Farm Owners and Operators

The applicant must fulfill the following Application Criteria

The applicant must:

  • Have a personal net worth of at least $500,000 (CAD) and have accumulated the net worth in a legal process.
    • Have at least three years of experience in Farm ownership, Farm management, Practical farming experience.
  • Give a proposal for a commercial Saskatchewan farming opportunity with plans to invest a minimum of $150,000 (CAD). The farming business must have a minimum of $10,000 CAD in annual revenue.
  • Have a score of at least 55 points on the Farm Owner/Operator Category Intent Grid.

2. Farm Owners and Operators – Young Farmer Stream

The applicant must fulfill the following Application Criteria

The applicant must:

  • Have a personal net worth of at least $300,000 (CAD) and have accumulated the net worth in a legal process.
  • Be under the age of 40 at the time of your application.
    • Have at least three years of experience in Farm ownership, Farm management, Practical farming experience.
  • Give a proposal for a commercial Saskatchewan farming opportunity. The farming business must have a minimum of $10,000 CAD annual revenue.
  • You or your spouse must have employment skills, based on education and experience, to supplement your farming income.

Before you submit your application, you must

  • Comply with the steps involved in the application process.
  • Pay a $2,500 CAD processing fee.
  • Pay the $75,000 CAD deposit.
  • Make an exploratory visit to Saskatchewan: You must stay in Saskatchewan for at least 10 days to conduct research through meetings with service professionals.

  • An employee in your current farming operation. The employee must submit their Skilled Worker Application.

Reviewing and assessing your application

  • Intake – after submitting the application applicant will receive a Letter of Receipt and file number.
  • Pre-Screening – the application will be screened for completion.
  • Assessment and an optional interview
  • Will issue Nomination Approval and Request for Deposit letter and a Business Performance Agreement.
  • Make a refundable deposit of $75,000 CAD.

Nomination: issue confirmation of nomination letter.

Application for PR: apply for PR after receiving the Confirmation of nomination.

Landing in Saskatchewan: must attend a Landing interview within 90 days of arriving.

Return of the Good Faith Deposit: can apply for return:

  • Within two years of your landing in Saskatchewan.
  • When all terms of the Business Performance Agreement have been met.
  • When you can show that you have invested in the Saskatchewan-based farm for at least six (6) months.
